Privacy Policy
Last updated: 1 August 2026
Astro Precise is built privacy-first. Your birth details, charts, and readings are computed and stored on your own device — we never see them. This policy explains, in plain English, the little we do collect, the lawful basis for each use, and the rights you have under the UK GDPR.
Who we are
The data controller is [FULL LEGAL NAME], trading as Astro Precise (a sole trader based in the United Kingdom), of [POSTAL ADDRESS]. For any privacy question, or to exercise any of your rights, email contact@astroprecise.app.
What we collect
Birth details you type. Your birth date, time, and place are used to compute charts and readings in your browser, and are saved in your browser’s localStorage so the site remembers your sky between visits. They are never sent to us — and an order never includes them.
Contact form. If you write to us through the contact form, your name, email address, and message are delivered to us via our form processor, Formspree. We use them only to reply.
Purchases. Checkout is run by Gumroad, the seller of record. We receive your email address and an order ID so we can deliver your reading or print and support your order. Your payment card and billing details are collected by Gumroad on its own secure pages and are never seen or stored by us. We never receive your birth data with an order.
Email signups. If you join the newsletter or a “notify me” list (such as the eclipse-launch list), we store the email address you submit together with a topic tag recording which list you joined. Signups are handled by our own Cloudflare Worker with encrypted storage.
Usage analytics. We run a self-hosted Umami instance — privacy-optimised, cookieless, and collecting no personal identifiers — alongside Google Analytics 4. Together they give us aggregate page and event statistics so we can tell what is working and keep the service reliable.
Lawful bases
- Contract — delivering the reading, print, or key you bought, and handling your order enquiries.
- Consent — marketing and notification emails. You give it when you subscribe, and you can withdraw it at any time.
- Legitimate interests — privacy-optimised analytics, security, and keeping the service reliable. These uses are minimal and proportionate, and you may object to them (see “Your rights”).
What stays on your device
localStorage on your device holds your birth details, the wallpapers and charts you generate, email-capture intents (so a half-finished signup is not lost), and unlock flags for readings you have bought. These items are strictly necessary for the features you use, so no consent banner is required for them. They never leave your device, and clearing your browser’s site data removes them completely.
Third parties & international transfers
We use a small number of processors: Gumroad (US — checkout and seller of record), Formspree (contact form), Google (GA4 analytics), GitHub (site hosting), Cloudflare (content delivery, security, and our email-capture Worker), and DigitalOcean (infrastructure for services we self-host, such as analytics). Some of these process data outside the UK; where they do, transfers are safeguarded by the UK–US data bridge, the UK International Data Transfer Agreement, or standard contractual clauses, as applicable.
Features that talk to other services
To provide certain features, your browser contacts third-party services directly. For the items below we do not receive your birth chart or reading content:
- Place search — when you type a birth city, the place text (and, if you use the map, the coordinates) is sent to the Open-Meteo geocoding service to look up coordinates and timezone. Your name, birth date, and birth time are not included.
- Sky-condition forecasts — our observing forecasts use the Open-Meteo weather API, which receives the location you ask about and standard request headers — never your birth data.
- Live sky data — the Instrument page fetches public space-weather readings from NOAA SWPC and, for the “quantum draw”, a random number from the ANU Quantum RNG. These requests carry no personal information.
- Fonts & (optional) map tiles — typefaces are self-hosted (bundled with the site), so your browser makes no third-party font requests; if you open the optional “refine on map” pin, map tiles load from OpenStreetMap/Carto. As with any web request, these providers receive your IP address and standard request headers.
How long we keep things
- Contact enquiries — 12 months, then deleted.
- Purchase and order records — 6 years, to meet UK tax and accounting requirements.
- Marketing list — until you unsubscribe.
- Eclipse-launch list — deleted, or re-consented for ongoing news, after the 12 August 2026 eclipse.
- localStorage — until you clear your browser data; we hold no copy.
Your rights
Under the UK GDPR you have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and objection, and you may withdraw consent at any time (which does not affect processing already carried out). Email contact@astroprecise.app and we will respond within one month. Chart and preference data on your own device is under your direct control — clear site data in your browser to erase it. If you are not satisfied with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
Security & hosting
The site is served by GitHub Pages behind Cloudflare; like any web host and content-delivery network, they see IP addresses and standard request headers in order to serve and protect the site. We take proportionate technical and organisational measures to protect the data we do hold, and we never sell personal data.
Children
Astro Precise is intended for adults. Purchases are restricted to over-18s, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.
Changes
We may update this policy as the site evolves. Material changes will be reflected by the “last updated” date above.
